Faces from the past
For the past few weeks, as I've been walking in along the South Bank my commuter route has crossed with a guy on a bike, usually near to Blackfriars Bridge. He's the spitting image of Ross Williamson, who I went out with on and off for 2 years at St Andrews. And those of you that know him will appreciate that he's got quite a few tell tale features (aka glasses and nose) which make him easy to spot. This guy shares those, and he cycles in the same King of the Road manner.
It's really freaky, the way we seem to cross in the same place each day indicating that our routines are pretty standard and set. Today as I was nearing Southwark Bridge I was musing that I should jot it down here - the coincidence and the reaction seeing someone who might be Ross, who I've not seen or heard from in over 10 years, has generated. And then who should appear out of the underpass under Southwark Bridge, but the cyclist himself. That generated a broad grin on my face as I climbed up the steps from the riverbank, and the determination to record the not-quite-encounters here.
There's no way of telling if it is Ross or not - but I do stare intently at the rider each time he whizzes past, half hoping for a flash of recognition and/or some other reaction on his part. It's not as if I really want to reestablish contact with him, although I'll confess to having plugged his name into FriendsReunited. But nevertheless I'm intrigued, and would dearly love to know if it is or if it isn't Ross. And if it isn't, the poor guy must be wondering what he's done to merit this bleary-eyed blonde peering at him on a daily basis.
