With Friends in High Places – Malcolm Slesser

Malcolm Slesser‘s autobiographical account of some of the notable mounainteering, climbing and other expeditions accumulated in his lifetime, interspersed with reflections on safety and risk, character and motivation, a mountaineer’s responsibility to the(ir) environment.

Unfortunately it featured mainly male friends from an era of mountaineering clubs and their version of the old boy network, which put me off somewhat. So, those chapters/pages I did read were mainly skim read.

I’m glad I didn’t just give up on the book though as the attempt on Yerapuja – Queen of the Andes features arriero Bedon, surely Melky’s dad.
