Walking Home From Mongolia – Rob Lilwall

Once I’d realised that “home” of the title was Hong Kong and not the UK, Walking Home from Mongolia made a lot more sense!

Over the winter of 2011/2012 Rob Lilwall and cameraman Leon McCarron walked from the frozen lands of Mongolia, pulling trailer Molly Brown behind them as they cross the Gobi desert in -20C temperatures, to the hot and humid lands of the south, via remote, earth-built sections of the Great Wall, the frozen Yangtze, 11 mile long road tunnels and encounters with Chinese from all walks of life – but mainly small town folk, for whom two bearded men, one English one Northern Irish, carrying 25kg backpacks, a tripod and camera were definitely out of the ordinary.
