Execution – S. J. Parris

Execution – S. J. Parris

Bruno becomes embroiled in the Babington Plot: a small rag-tag group of Catholic priests and young noblemen seek to “execute The Tudor” and to put Mary, Queen of Scots on the English throne.

With spies, double agents, murders and secret codes, and a fair few BREXIT allusions on the way.

Prophecy – S. J. Parris

My second outing in the company of Italian ex monk Giordano Bruno, protecting Good Queen Bess and (relative) religious tolerance in the service of Sir Francis Walsingham. We’re in the twilight years of Tudor England, with the rich and powerful looking towards her possible successor. As Bruno discovers, there are a few variations on that theme…. particularly once you throw the Catholic cause into the mix. Warning, spoilers.

We find Bruno still enjoying the company of Dr John Dee, and still letting his mind wander towards and wonder about what or who occupies the heavens above – an infinite universe of stars or God and his angels in Paradise.

I think I shall read some more….

Heretic – S. J. Parris

More Elizabethan sleuthing – this time with Italian ex monk Giordano Bruno on his first mission for Sir Francis Walsingham – visiting Oxford in the company of Sir Philip Sidney and the Polish Prince Palatine of Siradia, searching for papist plotters…. but finding instead a series of murders modelled on Foxe’s Book of Martyrs.

Wow – turns out Giordano Bruno was a real person!
